Joost P. Van Melle
I am a cardiologist (since 2008) and scientist working at the University Medical Center Groningen, The Netherlands. My clinical work includes the care for the patient with heart diseases, in particular the adult patient with congenital heart disease (CHD). I am specialized in the field of echocardiography, certified by the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) certificates for CHD, Transthoracic and Transesophageal echocardiography. My research focusses on the value of echocardiographic measurements in clinical practice, especially heart failure and atrial fibrillation. In addition, I am involved in research in prosthetic valves, especially pulmonary prosthetic valves. I have a special interest in the Fontan circulation. I have coordinated a European multicenter study among 22 member centers of the European Congenital Heart Surgeons Association (ECHSA), investigating the surgical outcomes of Fontan takedown, Fontan conversion and heart transplantation (HTX) for failing Fontan patients. I am looking forward to share the results of this study with you during the Congress.
