Dr. Shirali graduated from medical school at Seth GS Medical College, Mumbai, India in 1983. Following residency training in Pediatrics at the University of Texas Medical School, Houston, he completed fellowship training in Pediatric Cardiology at Texas Children’s Hospital / Baylor College of Medicine, Houston in 1994. The focus of his training was echocardiography. Following a four-year stay at Loma Linda University, California, Dr. Shirali moved to the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, in 1998 as the director of Pediatric Echocardiography. In Charleston, Dr. Shirali honed his skills in 3D echocardiography, imaging of the fetal heart and outcomes research. In 2012, Dr. Shirali moved to Children’s Mercy Hospital, Kansas City, as Director, Cardiology, and Co-Director, Ward Family Heart Center. Dr. Shirali has been a successful investigator, mentor and educator. He has delivered over 300 invited lectures, organized over 40 workshops, published over 80 peer-reviewed articles and presented over 80 abstracts. He has co-authored a textbook of 3D echocardiography, written over 20 textbook chapters and compiled innovative tools to teach echocardiography including a CDROM in 1997 and a DVD in 2007. He has participated in the NIH-funded Pediatric Heart Network since 2001. Dr. Shirali co-directs one of the busiest pediatric cardiac programs in the USA, with a faculty of over 30 cardiologists and surgeons.
